27 Oct Manhunt launched after double murder of woman and her son in Coventry | UK News
Police are investigating two murders after a man’s body was discovered at a flat in Coventry a night after his mother was found dead.
A manhunt has been launched for suspect Anthony Russell, who officers believe is responsible for the killings, West Midlands Police said.
It comes after 32-year-old David Williams was found dead at a flat in Riley Square, Coventry, at around 11.30pm on Monday night.
He was last seen on 20 October and was reported missing to police on Saturday 24 October.
His mother, Julie Williams, 58, was found dead in her own flat, also in Riley Square, just before 11pm on Sunday after concerns were raised for her welfare.
The cause of both of their deaths have not yet been established, police said, and post-mortem examinations are due to take place in due course.
Russell, 28, who has links to Coventry, is being sought by police and is thought to have travelled down south, possibly to Plymouth, Devon or Cornwall.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information about Russell’s whereabouts to get in touch.
They say he is considered dangerous and have asked people not to approach him, but to call police immediately on 999.
Another man, 36, has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and is currently in custody.
Detective Inspector Jim Mahon, from our homicide team, said: “These deaths are very sad and my thoughts are with David and Julie’s family at this difficult time.
“Our investigation continues at significant pace but we need to find Russell as soon as possible.
“I’m urging anyone with information about where he is to get in touch with us straight away.”
Anyone with information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk, or via 101, quoting log number 2265 of 25 October.
