Harry Kane: England captain fails to show up to pre-season training amid Man City transfer interest | UK News

England football captain Harry Kane has failed to show up for pre-season training at Tottenham amid speculation around his future at the club.

It suggests the centre forward is prepared to try and force his way out of north London, with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City his most likely destination.

Kane, 28, was due to return to training on Monday after a three-week break following his exploits with England at Euro 2020.

He was expected at the club’s Hotspur Way training centre to take various tests, including for COVID and to assess his basic fitness levels.

The centre forward told Spurs, his boyhood club, in May that he wanted to leave in order to win trophies, Sky Sports News reported, prompting City to make a bid of £100m at the end of June.

However, Tottenham value him at considerably more than that and, with three years left on his contract, the club has no intention of selling their prized asset.

The striker, who has scored almost 250 career goals, most of them for Tottenham, believes he has a gentleman’s agreement with chairman Daniel Levy that he can leave this summer.

Kane hinted at the end of last term that he would like to join Manchester City, but the Premier League champions have previously indicated they would not pay the sort of £150m fee required to even tempt Spurs to the negotiating table.

Their pursuit of Kane’s England colleague Jack Grealish for £100m is also reported to impact their ability to sign Kane.

Kane has been in the Bahamas following England’s run to the Euro 2020 final and looks to have set his stall out to force a move from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

New boss Nuno Espirito Santo, who was assured Kane would not be sold during discussions for the job, said last month that Kane could be “counted on” next season.

Spurs – who face Manchester City at home on the opening day of the season – have declined to comment.
