A40 crash: Women and three children killed in collision near Oxford named | UK News

The woman who died in a car crash near Oxford with three of her children has been named as 29-year-old Zoe Powell.

Mrs Powell, a blogger from Chinnor in Oxfordshire, died in the crash between a people carrier and a heavy goods vehicle on Monday night, along with daughters Amelia, four, and Phoebe, eight, and her six-year-old son, Simeon.

Her 30-year-old husband Josh, and 18-month-old daughter, who were also in the vehicle, are in a critical condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 56-year-old man, suffered minor injuries, according to Thames Valley Police.

Chinnor Parish Council said it was “shocked and saddened” of the deaths, while the leader of Oxford City Council, Susan Brown, said: “Horrible, horrible news and my thoughts are not just with the family and friends but with all those professionals doing their jobs who have seen sights they will sadly never forget.”

Senior Investigating Officer Sergeant Dominic Mahon, of the serious collision investigation unit, said the investigation into the “incredibly tragic” and “horrendous” incident is in its early stages.

“The next of kin of the family have been made aware and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers,” he said.

“The thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police, along with our partners who have assisted at the scene or at the hospital, are with the families at this incredibly difficult time.”

Appealing for help from the public, he said: “I would appeal to anybody who was driving in the area at the time of the collision and witnessed what happened to please contact 101, or make a report online, quoting reference number 43200321914.”
